Casa Roma Kitchen Nightmares
Gordon visits Casa Roma, Lancaster in California, to visit the oldest restaurant of the city. What happened? Gordon saved the restaurant in time. We are a commercial kitchen-hood cleaning company. Every day we have our own kitchen disasters. We are hood cleaning experts and we love to read these stories.
Casa Roma Kitchen Nightmares Recap
They purchased the failing restaurant in the hopes of making it successful and turning it around. They didn’t have enough experience and the bar is packed, but the dine-in restaurant is empty.
Gordon meets the owners and finds that the bar is completely unwinding. Gordon sits down to review the menu and orders food. He also notices pieces of food and tissue at the back.
It takes quite a while for the food to arrive. Gordon also notices that the blinds are dirty even though the restaurant employs a cleaner. Eric is defensive about Gordon’s comments on his food and blames him for having a bad day.
Eric neglects Drew the sous chef during dinner service. This leads to long waits and makes it difficult for them to work together. Gordon notices that many dishes are being returned to the kitchen uncooked and angrily closes the restaurant.
Gordon goes back to the walk-in on the next day and inspects it for moldy food, unidentifiable frozen meat and 3-month-old baby ribs. He brings a blue UV lamp to the bathroom and discovers that there are bodily fluids all over the walls, ceiling, and floor.
Drew and Gordon are challenged to make a fresh pizza. Gordon then cooks them a frozen one to test their skills. Drew made Nylah fresh pizza. She says it tastes exactly like their old pizza.
It takes a day to give the restaurant an interior and exterior makeover. The filthy carpet is also removed. Nyla and the staff were delighted to discover Casa Roma, a beautiful pizzeria.
Gordon organizes an event to celebrate Casa Roma’s 50th birthday and introduces the restaurant as the new pizzeria.
Customers begin to arrive at the restaurant after the relaunch. Drew’s son Jimmy, Nylah’s daughter, is helping Drew in the kitchen. Gordon is annoyed when Gordon asks one table to return food twice, as it was undercooked. Calzone’s baking size is too large for Jimmy, so Gordon asks him not to bake as much. Drew feels under pressure and the kitchen is backed up. Drew takes a break and regroups before he takes full control of the kitchen. Orders are now moving much faster. Customers love the food. The relaunch has been a great success. Gordon assures them that the turnaround was successful and that they should continue the good work.
Drew finally steps up, and the food leaves the kitchen quickly. Customers are impressed and the relaunch went well.
Revisiting Casa Roma
Gordon returns to Casa Roma, Lancaster, one year after its relaunch. Chef Drew isn’t there anymore. Gordon is surprised to find Q (Chef in Sebastian’s Restaurant Gordon relaunched). Gordon chats with Q about Sebastian’s. Q tells Gordon the owner vanished one day. Gordon inspects the walk in freezer, and ensures that the kitchen and place are free from any stains.
Casa Roma was renamed CR Roadhouse briefly in mid-2015. This is likely because all the staff were there after Nico’s closed. They also changed the menu.
Casa Roma will be closing its doors effective July 1st. It’s going to be a sad month. But, things are going to be very sad.
The Comment Section
Below is a summary of some of the comments made on social media about Casa Roma and the Show.
“Because most bars located in residential areas aren’t profitable, especially if they serve inedible foods. The black light made it appear that there was urine on the ceiling. This makes the entire thing even more disgusting. Perhaps this is where Eric, the lazy chef, made his “special recipe.”
“Dirty kitchen dining area restrooms are just a sign the owner isn’t caring anymore in GR Words…WAKE UP!”
We visited the place a couple times soon after Gordon performed his magic and everything was great. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there so I don’t know what it’s like right now.
“Often I feel that they just Ramsay spend on makeover the restaurants+advertisings. He is respected by those who are open to him and others closed !!!!!”.
“The history was so strange about this place. The menu was changed back to its original state right after the episode had been rebroadcast. Why? Nylah never liked the original menu. She rebranded the restaurant and basically recreated Ramsay’s changes without Ramsay’s professional changes. Why change? After that, they tried again and it failed. They could have simply stayed the same all along and saved so much money, time, and effort. Q is the only person I feel bad about here. He went through many nightmares (though he was not a negative part Sebastian’s).
They make less than 100 dollars a night, and their fast-fire relationships with chefs left them struggling to find a good one. Over 20 chefs were hired and fired in a period of two years.
