What is IKECA?

IKECA, an international trade association, represents commercial kitchen exhaust cleaners and inspectors.

IKECA’s Mission and History

The International Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Association was established in 1989 by a small group made up of kitchen exhaust cleaners. They realized that they shared similar beliefs and needs in regards to proper exhaust cleaning for fire protection. In just two years, they had established the first trade association to represent the kitchen exhaust cleaning industry.

IKECA became a standards developer in the American National Standards Institute, (ANSI) in 2009. IKECA helped develop standards for cleaning, inspecting, maintenance and repair of commercial kitchen exhaust system. ANSI accepted those standards, and others (National Fire Protection Association, International Code Council, as well as other jurisdictions in the US) have referenced them.

This is only the start. IKECA, which has members from all corners of the globe, is committed to bringing its core beliefs to every corner of the globe. It also continues to lead the industry with continuing education and certification.

Explanation for Certification

The kitchen exhaust industry is growing rapidly and technology is evolving at a rapid rate. IKECA created certification programs to help individuals keep up with changes in codes and standards that affect all members of the industry.

CECS: Certified Exhaust Cleaning Specialist

The Certified Exhaust Cleaning Specialists (CECS), is for highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals who are able to lead others in their crew. Every IKECA Active Member must have at least one CECS certified employee.

CECT: Certified Exhaust Cleaning Tech

Certified Exhaust cleaning technician (CECT), which is the first step in your crew’s career, is for crew members working under the supervision of a Certified Exhaust Specialist (CECS).
